Ebony & Jared's Amazing One North Broad Wedding
I met Ebony and Jared through wedding planner & mastermind, Shellie Warner from (rel)EVENT Planning. We originally met virtually and planned their save the dates and then met in person on a walk through of their incredible Philadelphia venue, One North Broad. One North Broad is the Masonic Temple in Philadelphia and if you haven't had a tour, you should definitely plan to take one soon. This gem sits adjacent to City Hall with an incredible portico that we decided to use for Ebony & Jared's envelope liner.
Ebony and Jared are both PhD scientists. They were looking to created an aesthetic that combined a clean, modern, and elegant wedding with some vintage science accents. Ebony loves orchids and they went with a color scheme of dusty rose and charcoal gray. We initially started working together on their save the dates. I had so much fun incorporating their ideas into an elegant, unique postcard.
From there, we started discussing their wedding invitations. We worked through a few design concepts and ended up blending a few ideas together. The final invitation suite included a gorgeous letterpress invitation on thick cotton stock and a rose gold foil duogram on the charcoal pocket. We used dusty rose envelopes and a beautiful black and white photograph of the portico at entering their venue. The combination was gorgeous!
We had a lot of fun working through their wedding day details. Wedding Planner, Shellie Warner, had such an incredible vision of their day. Tying together vintage books, science, florals with a modern, elegant flair is not an easy thing to do and she nailed it! The end result was absolutely beautiful. Using an antique card catalog for the escort cards was my favorite detail. The gorgeous place settings included menus, each with a custom rose gold wax seal, that Ebony personally stamped.
Ebony and Jared were kind enough to share some of their memories and thoughts from their planning and wedding day. Read on...
Their photographer, Marshall, took all of these amazing photos (with the exception of the save the date photo).
What did you want your wedding to feel like? We wanted it to feel like the party of the year! A black-tie adjacent event with the soul of a backyard wedding.
What was your inspiration for your wedding? We're both bibliophiles with a healthy love of science and technology so we wanted a literary vibe. We were inspired by our favorite books and stories and the types of buildings that house those stories- libraries and museums.
What made you choose a custom stationery designer (me) to create your wedding invitation vision? We definitely wanted everything to be uniquely ours and we wanted a stationery suite that celebrated, us, our love, and the books and places we love.
How did your stationery set the tone for your reception or wedding day? Amy incorporated a beautiful black and white photo of the outside of our wedding venue inside our custom envelopes.
Take us back through your wedding day; share your wedding story. Jared and I spent our morning getting dressed, separately, with our parents and bridal party members. Then we met on the grand staircase at One North Broad for our first look. Then we were whisked away for outdoor photos in front of city hall before our ceremony started. Our best friend married us, but we barely remember the ceremony because we couldn't take our eyes off of each other. Then it was party time! Our guests gave us a ribbon-wand send off on our way back to our hotel. It was literally the perfect wedding day.
How did the amazing spaces at One North Broad factor into your planning? One North Broad is so beautiful inside and outside that we really did minimal decorating. We really wanted our guests to appreciate the space so we hosted our cocktail under the stained glass of the foyer under the stars to let guests explore the historical space.
What was your first dance song? Thinking out loud, Ed Sheeran What was your favorite moment to see or create? For me it was definitely the dramatic entrance to walk down the Isle. For Jared, it was our first dance.
How did you end the night? Did you have an after-party? We were exhausted, we passed out in our hotel room after eating more wedding cake!
What surprised you most about planning your wedding? How many little details there were that vendors suggested other couples were super sensitive about, like making individual seating plans for the service, that we just didn't think of until asked.
