A Spring Celebration at Valley Rock Inn
Custom Wedding Invitations Inspired by Floral Elements and Romance
When you step into Valley Rock Inn in the spring, it already feels like something out of a painting of a European Inn - lush greenery, stone walls with stories to tell, and a quiet energy that draws people together. L+M’s wedding weekend leaned into all of that natural beauty while adding their own layered, colorful narrative. From the garden-inspired floral palette to the thoughtful paper details tucked throughout the weekend, this wedding was a true reflection of them: personal, artful, and full of joy.
Custom Wedding Invitations Inspired by a Floral Installation
The design process for L+M’s custom wedding invitations started with a mood board with incredible highlights, but the standout was an Ivie Joy floral installation filled with rich, vibrant color. We muted that vibrancy with sage green tones to bring softness and cohesion, letting the florals sing without overpowering. From there, the suite evolved into something that felt both painterly and grounded.
Each card was printed on luxurious double-thick stock. The main invitation was letterpress printed in a custom sage green ink, edge-painted to match, and wrapped in a floral vellum overlay. We sealed it with a custom wax seal featuring their monogram—a detail that ended up appearing in so many beautiful places throughout the wedding weekend.
As with many of my custom wedding invitations, the first proof was an open-ended interpretation of their vision. But it was during our design review—the kind I truly love—where things came into focus. We walked through what they loved, what could be edited, and how they were envisioning their guests experiencing the suite. That collaboration brought so much clarity. By round two, we had a final direction that felt just right.
It reminded me of critiques in college—when multiple perspectives come together, the work always improves.
Details That Wove the Weekend Together
Throughout the weekend, their paper details added subtle layers of storytelling. We carried the floral motifs and soft green palette into the menus and place cards, seamlessly tying in the design from the invitation suite. From the moment guests arrived to their seats at dinner to the signature cocktails (Lindsay’s Lychee and Michael’s Spicy Margarita), every touchpoint felt intentional and refined.
And then there was that seating chart wall created by Ivie Joy in collaboration with Stone Hill Paperie and Two Kindred Event Planners - a showstopper in every sense. A trio of sage green panels adorned with gold-framed mirrors, wild florals, and custom seating lists created a moment that was both grounded in nature and unapologetically romantic.
A Joyful, Rooted Celebration
L+M’s wedding was filled with the kinds of moments that linger: a stunning first dance beneath hanging florals and rattan lanterns, personalized notes at each place setting, and a custom hand-drawn dance floor that felt like a garden under the stars. Every detail reflected their story—and it was an honor to be part of it.
