Sierra + Adam’s November Wedding at the Mayernik Center

Sierra + Adam reached out to me for their fall in nature inspired Pittsburgh wedding. These two love being outdoors, the fall, their cute dog and each other. We took an image of a favorite location of theirs in North Park and created a watercolor image of it to serve as the background for their invitation. Sierra summed up her design inspiration with the word "warmth"- that feeling of joy and happiness knowing that our loved ones are gathered to join us in this celebration and share in our love for each other and for all those who are gathered there. Being an archivist, Sierra understandably wanted to make sure the paper and inks were archival quality. We were so happy that the printer I wanted to use confirmed that we were good!

In almost every design process, there seems to be a little bit of magic. This time it really hit while curating the vintage postage for this suite. We found a National Archives stamp and Abraham Lincoln or “Lincoln” is something that had popped up often early in their relationship!

Following the invitation design, we worked on the programs for their ceremony and menus for the reception to tie their invitation design into their wedding day. I loved seeing how everything came together. Sierra + Adam were kind enough to share a bit about their wedding day and their amazing photos…

What did you want your wedding to feel like?

Above all else, we wanted our loved ones to feel the warmth of our two families coming together. We wanted hints of nature as well, because we really love spending time outdoors.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?

Again, we wanted to draw upon our love of nature, particularly at the reception. We knew very early on that we would have a traditional church wedding, because we also share a common faith.

What made you choose a custom stationery designer (me) to create your wedding invitation vision? Throughout the wedding planning process, we discovered that what we were seeking in a theme/vibe didn’t fit the more generic templates or styles. After hours of searching online, we discovered the Stone Hill Paperie camping invitation suite and knew that we were getting close to a design that fit the two of us. We also knew that our invitations would be among our most cherished keepsakes from our wedding, so we wanted it to meaningfully reflect our relationship. We found a stunning image of a local park where we spend nearly every weekend- we shared it with Amy in the hopes that she could incorporate it, which she did masterfully!

How did your stationery set the tone for your reception or wedding day?

Honestly, working with Amy on our invitation suite truly clarified the look and feel of our wedding day. She picked up on the warm colors and feel of our inspiration image and tied it to our reception venue. The vision board that she created crystallized what formerly felt like disparate pieces of our planning process.

What was your favorite moment to see or create?

It was wonderful to see the coming together of our loved ones at the reception- countless little moments that brought us such joy. It was everything we had imagined and so much more.We also loved the experience of our wedding mass. We took such meaning in selecting the music, readings, and responses; it was so moving to see all these pieces fall into place.

How did you end the night? Did you have an after-party?

We were pretty classic with a wrap-up at the end of the reception. What surprised you most about planning your wedding? Just how many decisions and choices there are! What advice would you give your friends getting married?

There’s nothing like having a wonderful support system of friends and family to gently remind you of who you are throughout the wedding planning process. It’s much easier than we anticipated to get caught up in it all!
